IBS & IBD
(Irritable bowel syndrome and Inflammatory Bowel Disease)

Did you know? 

It is estimated that 1 in 5 people in Australia have IBS and women are twice as likely to have symptoms!

IBD is less common with around 1 in 250 people in Australia affected and the most common diagnosis is Ulcerative Colitis or Crohn’s Disease.

Possible IBS Causes Include:

  • Diet

  • Dysbiosis (imbalanced gut bacteria)

  • Intestinal Permeability (leaky gut)

  • Small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO)

  • Maldigestion

  • Parasitic Infection

  • Stress

  • Food sensitivities

  • Certain medications

 

Possible IBD Causes Include: 

  • Diet

  • Genetic predisposition

  • Autoimmune disease

  • Immune dysfunction

  • Certain medications

  • Dysbiosis (imbalanced gut bacteria) 

  • Bacterial Infection 

 

Symptoms include: 

  • Diarrhoea & constipation (or both)

  • Bloating (upper and lower abdominal)

  • Abdominal pain 

  • Anxiety and depression

  • Mucous or blood in stools

  • Malnutrition

  • Anaemia 

 

How can we help? 

There are many ways to address symptoms of IBS and IBD to get you back on track to feeling well again. In your initial appointment we will narrow down the likely cause of your IBS / IBD. You may be able to address IBS with diet alone. You may need tailored supplementation, or you may require further testing to see what is driving your symptoms.
